Game Day COVID Protocols

Hi everyone,

With rec soccer games starting this weekend, we will be following the protocols/guidelines for game days that Iowa Soccer Association as put in place for us to follow as an organization. They have put these into place after talking with doctors from the University of Iowa. NWISC will be following these to help mitigate the spread of the virus and create a safe environment for all parties involved. The NWISC Board of Directors are excited to be back out on the fields this Saturday. If we all do our parts, we can help ensure that we not only start the fall season but finish the season.

  • Player Responsibilities:
    • Wear masks to and from the fields (don’t need to wear them while playing).
    • Arrive to and from field fully dressed and ready to go.
    • Do not share water bottles, drinks, snacks, pinnies, etc.
    • No group huddles, high fives, hugs, chest bumps, etc.
    • Congratulate and round of applause to opponents after game. No handshakes or high fives during this.
    • HAVE FUN PLAYING SOCCER!
  • Coach Responsibilities:
    • Masks required.
    • Maintain minimum of 6 feet of physical distance; during injury may not be possible.
    • Ask each player before the game begins if they feel sick or have any symptoms; instruct them to go home if they answer “yes”.
    • When players are sitting out, ensure they stay 6 feet of physical distance apart.
    • Do not provide communal water, drinks, etc. and reinforce with players to bring own.
  • Parents & Spectators Responsibilities:
    • Recommended only 2 people per player.
    • Recommended to wear mask to/from and during the match. Wear mask when interacting with other spectators, coaches, referees, or other players within a 6 foot distance.
    • Must sit 10 feet away from the sideline (behind the dashed painted line).
    • Maintain minimum of 6 feet of physical distance from other family units at all times.
    • Stay home if you have any signs or symptoms of being sick.
    • Parents – if your child is feeling sick or has any symptoms, don’t let them play.
  • Referee Responsibilities:
    • Masks required during pregame check and when arriving and leaving the fields.
    • Only use own equipment; if it must be shared, sanitize before and after use by another.
    • Role is not to enforce the protocol; role is to note and report instances of non-compliance to appropriate people.
  • Additional Info for Saturdays:
    • Following the guidelines the CDC has set fourth if you fall into the high risk categories for contracting COVID-19, you are discouraged from coming to the soccer complex due to the potential risk of exposure.
    • Please do not arrive more than 20 minutes before game time to allow time for previous game to leave.
    • No concession stands.
    • No courtesy cart.
    • No hanging out around the fields after game is complete. Exit the fields immediately.
    • Teams will be placed on opposite sides of the field. The spectators of those fans will sit on the other half of that same side of field as their team (see image below).
